Mission and Community Outreach

Mission and community outreach are two very important areas at the heart of our congregation. If you’re looking for a project with a good cause that will make a difference in your world, or even just in your neighborhood, become involved at Bethesda!

September is Hunger Action Month and Helping Hands is collecting money to support the Society of St. Andrew.  SOSA is a hunger relief ministry, salvaging and distributing nourishing fruits and vegetables for food insecure people across America.  Families can collect coins throughout the month.  Coins or checks (payable to BUMC with SOSA on the memo line) are due on October 1st.

The Ugly Quilts group meets on Tuesday mornings  at 9:30 am. The group compiles fabric, reading materials, and winter weather accessories and then creates warm care packages to help the homeless in the winter. No sewing experience necessary! Please call 378-2313 for more info.

Bethesda’s congregation collects non-perishable food items to stock the shelves of the food pantry located at the Neighborhood House in Middletown. To contribute to the collection, simply bring a non-perishable food item to church with you on Sunday morning and place it in the Helping Hands tub, located next to the door of our preschool Sunday school classroom.

Our Helping Hands Committee frequently participates in mission projects that benefit our community on both local and global levels. Information on how you can help is published in our Sunday bulletin on a weekly basis.
